Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival mantel clocks from the nineteenth century are characterized by gilded metal cases featuring fluid scrollwork, floral foliage, and asymmetrical flourishes. They typically house mechanical spring-driven movements and served as both functional timepieces and prominent decorative focal points.

These clocks are constructed with cast gilt bronze or gilded brass cases, known historically as ormolu. The internal mechanisms consist of brass plates, steel gears, and a steel chain or gut cord wrapped around a conical fusee pulley.

Authentic period examples feature hand-engraved maker signatures on the dial or backplate, engine-turned dials, heavy cast cases showing hand-chased details, and a distinct cone-shaped fusee barrel within the movement.

Positioning a gilded clock on a minimalist marble chimneypiece or dark wood sideboard creates a refined point of contrast. Pairing gilded metalwork with modern neutral backdrops highlights the sculptural quality of the cast details.

Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent abrasive buildup in carved crevices. Avoid liquid chemical cleaners or metal polishes, as these can strip the delicate original gold leaf or gilding, and arrange professional horological servicing for the internal mechanism every five to seven years.
