Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian sugar bowl and sifter set is a specialised dining service item created during the nineteenth century, designed to hold and serve sugar. The bowl typically contained granulated or lump sugar, while the accompanying sifter spoon featured a pierced bowl used for dusting powdered sugar over fruits or pastries.

Victorian silver tableware was primarily constructed from sterling silver, meeting the standard purity of 92.5 percent silver content. Craftsmen frequently applied interior gilding (vermeil) to prevent corrosion from acidic foods and used hand-embossing, repousse hammering, and chasing to form elaborate surface patterns.

Authentic British sterling silver from the Victorian era displays a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office mark (such as a leopards head for London), a date letter representing the precise year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

An antique silver sugar bowl set can be placed on a dining sideboard, drinks trolley, or display cabinet as a decorative focal point. Its original fitted velvet case can be left open to display the contrasting textures of polished metal and rich fabric alongside contemporary ceramics.

Sterling silver should be cleaned gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the surface. Gilded interiors require minimal friction, warm soapy water, and thorough drying, avoiding harsh abrasive chemicals that can wear away the thin gold layer.
