Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Also known as a bottle ticket, a decanter label is a small plaque suspended by a chain around the neck of a glass decanter to identify its contents, such as sherry, port, or Madeira. Popularised during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these items served functional and decorative purposes on formal dining tables.

Decanter labels were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, Sheffield plate, or silver gilt, though examples in mother-of-pearl, enamel, and porcelain also exist. Silver examples frequently featured cast or chased ornamentation depicting vine leaves, scrollwork, or shell motifs.

Authentic British sterling silver decanter labels bear official hallmark stamps, including the makers mark, town mark, lion passant, and a specific date letter. Nineteenth-century pieces may also feature a sovereigns duty mark depicting the ruling monarchs profile.

Suspend the label around the neck of a glass decanter placed on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or tray top. Displaying silver wine tickets alongside cut glass adds tactile historical detail to home bar setups.

Clean silver labels using a soft cotton cloth and a gentle silver polish formulated for historical metalwork, avoiding abrasive compounds. Take care when handling the suspension chain to prevent stretching or damaging the delicate links.
