Technical Description
A rare example of an 18th century opaque twist wine glass dating to c1760.
It has a bell bowl above a triple series opaque twist stem consisting of a pair of 6-ply spiral bands (element 1), outside a pair of spiral gauzes (element 2), the gauzes containing solid spiral cores (element 3). Conical foot.
Comments
A triple twist is defined as having three independent elements, each element being different. For instance a stem containing 3 spiral gauzes is defined a single series as all element are the same and perform the same action within the stem. A pair of spiral gauzes outside a solid core is a defined as double series. So it is NOT the number of elements that count but what the elements do, that dictates their classification.
A triple series occurs in approx. 1-300 ratio within the opaque twist stem classification.
