George III Sheraton Satinwood Writing Table, c.1810
English – Early 19th Century
A fine quality George III period satinwood writing table in the Sheraton style.
The rectangular top veneered in well-figured satinwood, with contrasting mahogany crossbanding and ebony stringing. To the back, a pull-up silk privacy screen.
The frieze fitted with a single long drawer with ebony line inlay and diamond-shaped escutcheon. The drawer interior features fitted compartments including pen tray and ink recess. To the right-hand side, a concealed pull-out slide with green baize writing surface. Matching dummy drawers to the sides.
Standing on tapering legs with ebony stringing throughout, terminating in brass caps and original castors.
Worked to all sides, allowing the piece to be used in the centre of a room.
Provenance: Removed from an Elizabethan house in Worcestershire.
Condition: Very good, with rich polish and minor wear commensurate with age.
