Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Welsh dresser evolved during the late 17th and 18th centuries as a functional combination of a display rack and a storage cupboard. Originally designed for country homes and farmhouses across Britain, these pieces allowed families to store kitchen utensils in the lower base while prominently displaying ceramics and pewter on the open upper shelves.

Georgian dressers were predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as English oak, pine, and fruitwood. Craftsmen utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, wooden peg fixings, and hand-planed backboards, often finishing the pieces with hand-forged iron or cast brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century dressers display signs of hand-tooling, such as hand-sawn mark variations, irregular dovetails, and pegged joints rather than modern screws or nails. Natural timber shrinkage over centuries often results in slight gaps or non-uniform dimensions along panel joins and drawer bases.

A traditional oak dresser can be styled in modern spaces by pairing the dark wood tone against clean, neutral backdrop paint colours like off-white or muted green. The open shelves can hold contemporary ceramic tableware, neutral glassware, or monochrome art prints to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Keep antique oak away from direct heat sources such as radiators to prevent the wood from drying and splitting. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and an occasional application of high-quality beeswax polish will preserve the natural patina and protect the timber surface.
