A stunning and very rare Art deco drop leaf dining table, perfect for saving space.

This is an exceptional and highly functional Art Deco drop leaf dining table dating from 1920 and finely crafted from solid quarter-sawn solid Oak. The wood displays a rich, warm, medium-brown tone with a highly characteristic medullary ray figuring (often referred to as 'tiger oak'), which catches the light beautifully, enhancing its antique appeal.

When fully extended , the tabletop forms an appealing oval shape, a softer geometric contrast to the bold lines of the base. The design is highly versatile, allowing the table to transition from a fully extended dining surface to a very narrow, rectangular console for space-saving. When extended the table will comfortably seat 6 people and being a drop leaf could also go against a wall to be used occasionally. The most distinctive Art Deco elements are found in the base: four substantial legs feature striking vertical fluting (reeded columns) that emphasise the clean, vertical lines of the period. These legs terminate in stylised, compressed bun-shaped or paw-like feet. The support structure, visible when open, utilizes a sturdy cross-stretcher near the floor, joined at the centre in a crisp X-shape, providing excellent structural stability and contributing to the geometric aesthetic.

Crucially, this table has been sympathetically and professionally restored. It presents in superb structural condition, being completely solid with no loose joints and exhibiting a beautiful, consistent finish. The drop leaf mechanism operates perfectly and smoothly, and the tabletop sections are perfectly flat without any bowing or warping, a testament to the quality of the restoration and original solid oak construction.
