Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest weaving regions in western Iran, encompassing the city of Hamadan and hundreds of surrounding villages. These rugs are historically renowned for their durable hand-knotted construction, geometric patterns, and rich vegetable-dyed wool.

Traditional 19th-century Hamadan rugs are crafted with a hand-spun wool pile knotted onto a sturdy cotton or wool warp and weft foundation. The wool was typically hand-dyed using natural plant extracts and minerals, producing deep indigo blues, madder reds, and rich terracottas.

Authentic antique Hamadan rugs feature a single-weft construction, hand-knotted Turkish (symmetrical) knots, and subtle colour variations known as abrash due to natural dye batches. The undersides display visible knotting patterns rather than uniform machine backing, and the edges are typically finished with hand-overcast selvedges.

A vibrant Persian Hamadan rug acts as an anchoring element in both contemporary and classical settings, grounding minimalist furniture with warm texture and historical depth. Layering it over neutral natural-fibre floor coverings like sisal or placing it on bare timber floors highlights its rich colour palette and geometric motifs.

Vacuum the rug regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush head to avoid pulling the wool fibres. Rotate the rug annually to ensure even wear and light exposure, and address spills immediately by blotting with a dry cloth rather than rubbing.
