This is a beautiful, rare, 19th-century French polychrome faience double-sided salt cellar modelled in the form of a reversible, elegantly dressed maid.

Circa 1860-1870

Hand-painted in wonderful colours of manganese, yellows, greens, blues and orange.

It is an impressive salt cellar depicting two maids who are wearing elegant dresses with aprons.

They are each wearing traditional headwear and holding a large salt bowl.
