Pair of Georgian Carved Mahogany Side Chairs

Description

A handsome pair of George II mahogany carved mahogany side chairs; the dished cresting rail above a vase shaped silhouette back above a compass shaped seat which is crossgrain veneered in mahogany and raised on cabriole legs which are acanthus to the knee and terminate in pad feet.

These Georgian chairs are made from good dense mahogany which retains an attractive colour and patination. The chairs' compass shaped seats have been reupholstered in the traditional manner and covered with a blue damask.

The chairs are typical of the George II period in their restrained, more masculine designand made are made from newly fashionable Cuban mahogany. Circa 1745.
