A sculptural Chinese Shoushan stone seal, carved during the Republican period (1930s), showing Liu Hai (??) seated on a tied wealth bag while Jin Chan (??), the money toad, approaches with a coin. The imagery combines traditional Chinese symbols of prosperity—wealth stored, money in motion and fortune arriving. The creamy stone with natural red veining takes a satin polish; carving is confident, with expressive features, rhythmic drapery and crisp cords and coins. The underside bears red seal-paste residue. Shoushan, quarried in Fujian, is one of China’s Four Great Seal Stones, prized for compact grain and elegance.
