Small Regency Mahogany Writing Table

19th century
Description

A Fine Quality Regency Period Mahogany Writing Table

Having Two Fitted Drawers To Frieze With Original

Turned Knobs Raised On Elegant X Framed End

Supports With Original Brass Castors

(This charming little writing table oozes elegance

and class and is such a sweet, useful size. It his of the

perfect form to use in any room, for almost any purpose

working as both a writing table to sit at or just a side

table. It is nicely finished all the way round meaning

it can also stand in the centre of a room. In terms of

condition it is good. The leather is of high quality and is

old though not original, so therefore it has various old

marks, scuffs and scrapes but nothing uneasy

on the eye in this respect. The piece has had no

restoration to speak of other than a wax and polish

and retains both it’s original turned knobs and it’s

original brass castors)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency writing tables typically date from the early 19th century and feature classical proportions, mahogany wood construction, leather surfaces, and slender turned or curved leg structures.

Furniture from the Regency period frequently utilised flame mahogany veneers, solid oak drawer linings, leather writing surfaces, and cast brass fittings including castors and keyhole escutcheon plates.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass castors, aged leather tops with gold tooling, and structural details like curule or X-frame legs.

These compact tables function as hallway console tables, living room side tables, or functional compact desks when paired with contemporary seating.

Keep the wood dusted with a dry cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to protect the finish, and preserve the leather inset by keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
