Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A wine cooler, also known as a cellarette, is an 18th-century dining room vessel designed to hold ice and keep beverage bottles chilled during meals. Constructed from timber with brass hoops and internal liners, these items served both functional and decorative purposes in formal dining settings.

High-grade timbers such as mahogany, oak, or walnut were primarily used for the exterior casing, secured with decorative brass straps and side carrying handles. The interiors originally contained lead or zinc liners to hold ice and protect the wooden structure from moisture.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved details, hand-riveted brass straps, and period joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails. Look for natural timber oxidisation, genuine wear around the base and handles, and smooth patina consistent with historical polishing.

While designed for chilling wine, these pieces function well as accent tables, plant stands, or decorative storage vessels in dining rooms, entryways, and living areas. Their rich wood tones and brass details complement both classic and contemporary decor schemes.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and damp environments to protect the wood from warping, and avoid placing water directly inside the vessel.
