Antique Silver Pocket Watch, Auguste Favre

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver pocket watch, Auguste Favre.

The watch has a good quality Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the lion and serpent image, the logo for Auguste Favre of Cormoret, Switzerland. Favre registered the mark in 1925.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has an image of Fortuna, Roman Goddess Of Prosperity, along with details of the movement… ½ chronometer, levées visibles, spiral Breguet, 19 rubies, balancier compense. A ½ chronometre is an older term for a watch that has been "adjusted" for temperature, meaning it has been tested and fine-tuned to perform accurately across a range of temperatures. Levées visible means the arrangement of the bridges and plates allows the watch's lever escapement to be seen, this was historically a mark of quality. Spiral Breguet is a Breguet hairspring for enhanced accuracy and balancier compense is a compensated balance to allow for temperature change.

This inner cover is also signed with the name Leyonet, another brand name registered by Auguste Favre, registered in 1913.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver and it is in good condition, just the odd small indentation but nothing too serious. The inside of the case back has the Swiss and German marks which indicates that it was exported to the UK via Germany, and it also has the Auguste Favre mark again.

There are slight traces of a rose gold wash which would have originally been around the bezel and edge of the case back.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial looks good to the naked eye. If viewed very closely, there are a couple of hairlines but they are faint. Pin-set hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
