This Victorian antique band is modelled in 9ct rose Gold, complete with a yellow gold opening heart padlock drop, and is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1897.
 
Padlocks first became popular during the Victorian period, worn by women whose significant others were leaving for an extended period. The significance was that the padlock would be locked onto the woman, and only her beloved would have the key- he would then open it upon his return.
 
Mainly popular on bracelets, padlock rings are much more scarce and collectable.
