A lovely example of this type of iconic, late Regency period wall clock.
The 8 day duration, fusee timepiece movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, shouldered plates, long pendulum, stop work and offset winding.
Behind a 12'' diameter, bowed (convex) painted iron dial. Having an outer and divided minute track and inner, Roman hour numerals. The centre bears the maker''s signature of ''SIMMS (of) CHIPPING NORTON''. Having blued steel and matching ''spade'' style hands and under a cast brass, locking bezel with a bowed glass.
Contained in a good, dark Cuban mahogany case of excellent figuring, colour and patina. The narrow and moulded bezel surround sits over the trunk that is inlaid with brass geometrical designs with the upper border line conforming to the curve of the bezel surround. It is flanked with plain and shaped ''ears'' and is separated from the rounded base by a 3-sided ebony moulding. The base has a rounded, cockbeaded and locking regulation door and also has confo
...rming brass inlay. The backbox has the usual access door to the right side.
* The maker was probably Samuel Simms circa 1790 to 1869.
Dimensions: 22'' high x 14 1/2'' wide x 6 1/2'' deep at the glass apex.
Circa: 1825.
Condition: The movement is working well and keeping good time but currently awaiting an overhaul. The dial is of good colour, sound with no flaking and merely shows a stain around the rivet seating of one of the connecting feet. The case is fully restored, of superb colour and both locks are working correctly. This is an excellent example, in fantastic condition. It is extremely original throughout.
Price: The price is for the clock in fully overhauled and guaranteed condition.
