Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An envelope card table is a compact games table featuring four triangular, hinged surface leaves. To open the table, the entire top rotates diagonally, releasing brass-hinged leaves that unfold outward to reveal a larger, square felt or Baize-lined playing area.

Edwardian card tables were commonly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring ebonised lacquered finishes. Hardware typically consisted of brass drop handles, piano hinges, and interior card pockets lined with wool baize.

Authentic Edwardian card tables feature hand-dovetailed drawer joinery, brass hinges, and mechanical swivel tops on central brass pivots. Signs of age include natural wear to the lower shelf, patinated brass fittings, and historical ebonising techniques over hardwood timber.

An ebonised card table functions as an occasional side table or corner accent when folded closed. Placed in a living room, hallway, or library, the dark surface contrasts well against neutral walls and provides storage via its frieze drawer and lower shelf.

Ebonised wood should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent scratching the black finish. Avoid harsh chemical polishes; apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to protect the surface and maintain the wood lustre.
