Large Antique Austrian Vienna Bronze Cold Painted Great Dane Dog

A fine quality 19th century cold painted Austrian bronze figure of a Great Dane dog in alert stance with his tail pricked, he wears a studded red leather collar and has his ears cropped, a practice used when the dogs were used to hunt wild boar in Europe, preventing them being cut or torn by the boar or branches and undergrowth. This superbly detailed bronze is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration and only minimal wear to the original paint, it measures 8 ¼ inches in length and weighs 946g.
