This striking VICTORIAN POTTERY CHEESE DOME AND STAND bears the Factory Marks of Powell, Bishop & Stonier (1878-91) of Hanley, Staffordshire Potteries and, inside the cover, an impressed Victorian Design Registration Lozenge.
The DOME is decorated in relief with Anthemions, Classical Laurel Swags and Greek Key Pattern. Small Oak Leaves on the base are highlighted with colour, as are some high points on the Dome. The edges and the ornate, open work handle are lined with gilt.
The Dome has small pierced holes, allowing air to circulate, thus allowing the Cheese beneath to breathe.
The condition is good. There is some wear to the paint.
A subtle, inspired design with a mixture of grandeur and simplicity.
