Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Stick stands became prominent in British entryways during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to store walking canes and umbrellas. Designs incorporating barley twist turnings drew inspiration from seventeenth-century Jacobean furniture styles, popularised again during Victorian and Edwardian revivals.

Traditional stick stands are commonly constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with woven cane or rattan panels. Lower interior sections often contained removable zinc or iron drip pans to catch water from wet umbrellas.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-woven cane inserts, timber showing natural age-related patina, and hand-turned spiral columns. Examining the joinery beneath the rim and checking for evidence of original liner fitments also aids in identification.

Place the stand near a front doorway, in a porch, or along a hallway wall to store umbrellas, walking sticks, or riding crops. Alternatively, it can be styled in a corner holding tall dried botanicals or architectural rolls.

Keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent the timber and cane from drying out. Dust the woven mesh gently with a soft brush, and treat the woodwork periodically with clear beeswax polish to protect the finish.
