Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 18th century, France, particularly the city of Lyon, became the premier centre for European silk weaving. Textiles from this period often featured intricate Rococo designs, floral motifs, and classical scrollwork commissioned for aristocratic estates and royal residences.

Authentic period textiles were typically handwoven using pure silk threads, often incorporating damask, brocade, or lampas weave structures. These techniques created contrasting matte and glossy surfaces, occasionally accented with passementerie trim or metallic threads.

Authentic pieces display characteristic hand-loom variations, narrow bolt widths standard to historic looms, and period-appropriate vegetable dyes. Hand-stitched seams, original linen backing, and age-consistent surface patination or wear further indicate period authenticity.

Antique textiles can be mounted inside a custom perspex display box or framed behind non-reflective glass to serve as acoustic and visual focal points. Hanging a large fabric panel above a console table or sofa adds depth, colour, and tactile history to contemporary rooms.

Historic silks should be kept out of direct sunlight and maintained in a climate-controlled environment with stable humidity. Professional conservation mounting with acid-free support materials is recommended to prevent stress on the delicate woven fibres.
