A fine pair of Kyoto Satsuma vases, late Meiji period, c.1890–1905. The tall, slender forms are painted in kinrande with gold and coloured enamels, detailed with micro-beading and ornate brocade-style borders. Cranes glide through blossoming plum and chrysanthemums, representing prosperity and long life. The brushwork and palette indicate Kyoto workshop production, within the circle of Kinkozan or Yabu Meizan. Unsigned, as was customary for export pieces.
