Samson, Paris — Pair of Hand-painted Floral Vases with Raised White Enamel, C. 1850

Description

A fine matched pair from the Samson Paris workshop. Hard-paste porcelain, thin-walled and panelled, with gilt rococo leaf handles. Hand-painted garden bouquets encircle each vase; rims edged in gilt. Over the enamels runs raised white enamel (émail blanc en relief) creating precise linear ornament and lively highlights. Samson (est. 1845) specialised in high-quality pieces inspired by earlier French factories such as Sèvres, Strasbourg and Chantilly. Small differences in size and weight between the two vases are typical of hand production.

Condition

Excellent antique condition; no chips, cracks or restorations. Light, age-related rubbing to the gilding on rims/handles.
