Antique 19th Century Yomut Turkmen Hand-woven Carpet With Dyrnak Guls, 301 × 174 Cm (9'11" × 5'9" Handmade Rug, Tekke)

An antique Yomut Turkmen carpet, dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. The pale aubergine field is decorated with columns of Dyrnak guls, enclosed by ivory borders of serrated leaves and latch-hook vines, flanked by narrow guard stripes. Hand-knotted in fine, supple wool with fringed ends, this is an attractive example of traditional Yomut weaving, rich in colour and character.
 
An appealing old carpet in fair condition, showing age and wear yet retaining considerable decorative charm, and ready for use.

In fair condition, commensurate with age. The pile is worn, heavily in places, and the reverse shows several taped patches to stabilise areas of previous wear.
