Description

A late Georgian mahogany tea table in the Sheraton style, the rectangular top folding open supported by a hinged rear leg above a single frieze drawer. The table stands on elegant square, chamfered legs, the font legs decorated with satinwood lozenge motifs and fine line inlay in the Sheraton manner, all characteristic of English craftsmanship in the closing years of the eighteenth century.

Embodying the neoclassical restraint of its era and with a rich light-toned mahogany colour, this is an attractive piece that would work well as a side table or console in a hallway or living space, with the flexibility to extend for serving or entertaining as needed.

When opened, the underside of the folding leaf shows a darker tone, likely reflecting a heavier original finish applied to protect the timber rather than any later alteration or variance in light exposure. Both leaves are original and have aged naturally in line with that difference.

Presented in very good antique condition with a warm, even patina and only minor wear consistent with age. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
