George II Antique Silver Bread Basket, Samuel Herbert, London 1755

Description

A fantastic example of an antique George II silver bread or fruit basket. Made in London in 1755 by Samuel Herbert and Company. It has a tight swing handle and a crisp set of hallmarks under the base. Overall the basket is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. There is a beautiful engraved coat of arms in the basket. The arms are those of Hooke Impaling Cholmley for the Yorkshire branches Long Lords of the Manor in Whitby. The workmanship on this piece is stunning, the casting and the fretwork are superb.
