Sold by: Leeds Antiques

A fine mid-19th century mahogany and leather upholstered library tub armchair, dating circa 1850, early Victorian period. The mahogany frame supports a continuous tub back with scrolled terminals, upholstered in buttoned, hand-dyed leather hide and finished with antique brass tacks. The pierced and carved back splat provides both strength and decorative detail, while the conforming overstuffed seat ensures comfort.

The chair stands on reeded and ring-turned mahogany front legs and splayed rear legs, all retaining their original gilt-brass and ceramic castors stamped “Cope & Collinson Patent” — a mark of quality and craftsmanship.

A handsome and high-quality Victorian tub armchair, offering both decorative appeal and comfort, equally at home in a library, study, or stylish modern interior.
