A superb Japanese Satsuma tea jar from the Tokyo studio of Taizan, dating to the Meiji period circa 1890. This refined vessel features a circular procession of rakan figures beneath bamboo groves, masterfully painted in polychrome enamels and lavish gold. The moriage relief is delicately raised and precise. The imperial mon crowns the lid, with the original inner cover present. Finial absent, two short glaze hairlines, rim nicks; no cracks, no repaint.
The underside bears a rare Tokyo-style signature in red and gold: Dai Nippon / Bijutsuhin / Satsuma-style famous ware / made by Master Taizan. This differentiates it from the Kyoto Taizan works and aligns it with examples known from Bonhams and Christie''s.
A striking spiritual work of Japanese export artistry with strong decorative and collector value.
