Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A clock garniture is a coordinated decorative ensemble consisting of a central mantel clock flanked by a pair of matching decorative side pieces, such as porcelain urns, vases, or candelabra. Popularised across Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these sets were designed to create symmetry atop fireplace mantels in formal reception rooms.

Late nineteenth-century clock garnitures were manufactured using hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain decorated with hand-painted overglaze enamels, printed transfers, and gilded accents. The clock movements were housed within porcelain cases, featuring cast brass bezels, glass dials or covers, and internal mechanical brass gear trains.

Authentic period examples often feature impressed or painted maker marks, pattern numbers, or factory monograms on the underside of the base. Additional indicators include hand-applied gilding showing natural rubbing, cast brass clock movement components, and fine craze lines or natural age wear in the glaze.

A porcelain clock garniture functions as a symmetrical focal point when placed along a minimalist fireplace mantelpiece or a dark timber console table. Pairing the intricate porcelain forms with understated modern backdrops or simple architectural mouldings allows the detailed scrollwork and classical imagery to stand out.

Clean the porcelain surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or soft makeup brush to remove dust from delicate relief mouldings. Avoid water, liquid detergents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip original surface gilding and enamel paintwork, and ensure the clock mechanism is maintained by a professional horologist.
