Rare Set of 4 Hand-painted Russian Imperial Plates by Kornilov Brothers, Circa 1861–1884

A rare and refined set of four 19th-century Russian porcelain plates by the esteemed Kornilov Brothers Factory of St Petersburg, featuring exquisite hand-painted fruit studies within delicate peach borders enriched with fine gilding. Each plate is marked with the imperial Kornilov Brothers underglaze blue factory mark used between 1861 and 1884, and bears the Imperial Warrant granted in 1843.

The Kornilov manufactory was one of Imperial Russia’s most technically advanced and artistically respected private porcelain factories, praised alongside Gardner and Popov at the 1849 St Petersburg Exhibition. Their wares were celebrated for their elegant forms, brilliant gilding, and finely executed painting — as exemplified by this set.

The painting style is soft and almost watercolour-like in execution, with remarkable naturalistic detail. The pastel borders and restrained gilding beautifully frame the fruit compositions. Sets of Kornilov plates of this quality and condition are exceptionally scarce.

Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or restoration. Minor rubbing to the gilt, and a few fine scratches to the painted surface on one plate.
