Antique Arts and Crafts Sugarloaf Moonstone Cabochon Earrings

19th century
Description

Fabulous large pointed cabochon moonstones mounted in silver with gold earring fittings. The rare sugarloaf moonstones and their silver settings were originally antique Arts and Crafts (c. 1880-1910) hatpins which we have had converted to earrings with the addition of solid gold wires. The stones are a soft milky blue-grey with a beautiful shimmering adularescence.

SIZE: Approx 1.7cm total drop from the top of the ear wire, the moonstones are 1.4cm diameter and around 8mm deep.

WEIGHT: 5.9g.

MATERIALS: Nine-carat (375) gold, 925 sterling silver, moonstone.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: The mounts are stamped STERLING SILVER.

CONDITION: In excellent antique condition. There is an inclusion at the bottom of one of the moonstones which looks like a dark line across (see photos); it's inside the gem and the surface is smooth and unblemished.

ERA: Victorian (c.1837-1901) with later gold wires.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
