A very fine Copeland coffee cup and saucer with stunning, ornate, raised and tooled gilt decoration of stylised floral garlands, cornucopias, ribbons and swags. Geometric borders and rims and the unusual looped handle with spiked spurs is also carefully picked out in gilt and the centre of the saucer has a superb raised star with intricate knotted design and tooled detailing. Factory stamp to the bases and pattern number painted in red D1610, c.1860.
The cup measures 6.8cm (2 11/16'') high and 7cm (2 3/4'') rim to rim and the saucer measures 12.3cm (4 7/8'') wide.
In excellent condition: the saucer has a very fine short glaze line to the rim that cannot be seen from the front, and it still rings beautifully. No other faults or repairs and no discernible handling wear, the decoration is perfect.
