A very nice example of a 19thC Nottinghamshire high back yew and elm Windsor chair. Featuring a carved splat, a solid saddle seat, three tapering underarm spindles on either side, and a very regional turned underarm support. Additionally, the arm bow has a distinctively notched underside at each end. Raised on highly decorative ring-turned legs, united by a crinoline stretcher, with the stretcher supports also being highly decorative when compared to the vast majority available.
The overall condition is very good, with age-related wear and tear. We have noted a historic repair to the central back splat, but beyond that, this chair is in lovely order. No makers'' stamp present, but the design markers all point to the Allsop family of Worksop (mid-19th century).
