Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

17th-century Spanish furniture from the Baroque period is known for its sturdy construction, utility, and heavy use of local timbers such as chestnut and walnut. Pieces often feature simple geometric forms, hand-forged iron hardware, and robust low stretchers connecting the legs.

Tables from this era were primarily constructed using solid native woods like chestnut, oak, or walnut, secured with traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Metalwork typically consisted of hand-forged wrought iron ring handles, drop pulls, and keyhole escutcheons.

Key indicators include hand-planed wood surfaces displaying subtle surface irregularities, hand-cut timber joinery, thick single-plank tops, and naturally oxidised wrought iron fittings. Age-appropriate wear and patination on unexposed underside surfaces also signal period origin.

Placing a dark timber antique against minimalist neutral plaster walls or polished flooring creates a striking textural contrast. It serves effectively as a foyer table or accent table alongside contemporary seating and understated decorative ceramics.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Maintain stable relative humidity in the room to prevent movement, splitting, or shrinkage of the solid wood planks.
