Important Howard & Son's Victorian Green Leather Ivor Armchair Claw & Ball Legs

19th century
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this once in a lifetime opportunity to own this very rare, Antique Victorian original Howard & Son's Ivor Berners street armchair with hand carved Claw & Ball feet which has been fully restored

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.

Never again will you be able to buy this exact armchair, its been fully restored from top to bottom, this is the most desirable Howard Armchair model every made, the Ivor, it also has the rarest foot option, the hand carved Claw & Ball Cabriolets, this is important, collectable and it screams English quality craftsmanship

For those of you that are unaware of Howard & Son's chairs, our late Queen had I think the largest private collection in the world which will of course now have passed on to Kind Charles, they are the finest, hand made in England pieces of seating ever designed and the most famous chairs in the world, they are highly collectable and extremely valuable

This chair has a mahogany frame, it has been stripped back, then reupholstered in Italian Russet hide leather, this hide is way more expensive than basic hide, it goes on plain as that was the traditional way to upholster it, the leather has been held in place with individually hand nail tacked antiques studs, the chair was then sent to my leather polishers where it was hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed, waxed down and polished, again all in keeping with the traditional methods

The arms and front panel all have Thomas Chippendale style floating buttons which adds a nice element to the finish so it isn't to plain

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard & Sons armchairs are renowned for their deep-seated comfort, coil-sprung frames, and superior upholstery craftsmanship, making them iconic pieces of 19th-century English furniture design.

High-quality antique armchairs typically feature solid hardwood frames, hand-carved mahogany legs, horsehair padding, steel coil springs, and hand-dyed natural leather hide finished with metal nailhead trim.

Authentic pieces often feature stamped markings on the rear castors or legs, stamped serial numbers on the wooden frame, or original printed ticking fabric bearing the makers name.

A deep green leather armchair serves as a striking focal point in a modern study or living room, pairing well with neutral stone palettes, warm timber accents, and brass lighting fixtures.

Keep leather away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading, nourish regularly with a dedicated leather balm, and gently dust with a soft, dry cloth.
