Fine and Highly Decorative German Silver Knight Figure – Hanau, c.1924
A superb and highly detailed German (Hanau) silver model of a standing knight, imported into London and bearing import marks for Berthold Hermann Müller, circa 1924.
The knight is depicted holding a long sword, with his shield resting beside his right leg. His tunic and armour are exquisitely detailed, featuring a hinged visor that reveals a finely carved inset ivory face beneath. The figure stands proudly on a canted square base adorned with a pierced scrolling foliate border.
An old collection label on the underside reads “Archduke Sigismund” (possibly referring to Archduke Sigismund of Habsburg, 1426–1496).
