Description

A stunning carpet, in stunning condition. Because of the great pile height, the colours really glow and it feels marvellous underfoot. The field design of flower sprouting 'Boteh' on the navy field is tremendously energetic and keeps the eye moving, while that gorgeous greeny-gold border is as unusual as it is beautiful. I don't find them in this size very often, nor with this great age and great condition. Really fabulous!

Serapi is a designation given to fine-grade Persian Heriz carpets crafted in Northwest Persia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They are recognized for their balanced geometric patterns, open compositions, and soft vegetable dye colour palettes.

Serapi carpets are constructed with hand-spun wool pile knotted onto a cotton warp and weft foundation. Dyes derived from natural plant and mineral sources produce characteristic shades of indigo blue, terracotta red, and celadon green.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural variations in dye shade, known as abrash, along with slight structural irregularities from hand-knotting. Inspecting the underside reveals clear knot definition and wear patterns consistent with age.
