A Japanese 19th Century Hirado Porcelain Wine Cup and Saucer, the fine translucent porcealin cup with an everted rim and painted in underglaze blue with flowering branches, bamboo and insects, both pieces with six character painted mark to base.

The cup in perfect condition, the saucer with one hairline crack (see photographs).

The cup 8cm high, 9cm diameter at the rim, the saucer 13cm diameter.

Hirado porcelain is a fine Japanese porcelain made in the Mikawachi kilns near Arita, historically produced during the Edo and Meiji periods under the patronage of the Matsura clan.

Hirado ceramics were created using high-purity kaolin clay from Amakusa, resulting in a fine white porcelain decorated with detailed underglaze cobalt blue painting prior to firing.
