Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Known traditionally as vedute, architectural view paintings of Venice gained immense popularity among European collectors during the 18th and 19th centuries as souvenirs of the Grand Tour. Artists captured the light, water reflections, and historic structures of the city to satisfy high international demand for topographical art.

Paintings from this period were typically executed using oil pigments bound with linseed oil on natural flax or linen canvas. Frames were constructed from timber, profiled with carved wood or moulded composition plaster (compo), and finished with hand-applied gold leaf over a clay bole base.

Authentic period works display natural age-related craquelure across the paint surface, natural oxidation on the reverse of the canvas, and hand-cut wooden stretcher bars. Signatures, artist inscriptions, date markings, and original composition gilding on the frame also provide physical confirmation of age.

An ornate gilt-framed oil painting creates striking visual contrast when hung against contemporary wall shades or placed as a centerpiece above a sideboard. Layering classical artwork alongside modern furniture adds depth, narrative, and historical warmth to living spaces.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and high humidity to prevent canvas warping and paint flaking. Clean the frame gently using a dry, soft goat-hair brush, avoiding water, liquid cleaners, or chemical solvents on both the gilded surface and paint layer.
