Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hock decanters were introduced during the 19th century specifically for serving German Rhine wines, which were historically referred to in Britain as hock. These vessels are distinguished by their tall, slender profiles and long necks, often rendered in vibrant coloured glass to enhance table settings.

Overlay or cased glass was created by fusing a thin layer of coloured glass over a base of clear lead crystal. Artisans then used wheel-cutting and engraving techniques to cut through the coloured layer, revealing the clear crystal beneath in intricate patterns.

Authentic period decanters usually feature hand-polished pontil marks on the base, sharp wheel-cut facet edges rather than moulded seams, and original ground-glass stoppers tailored to fit each specific bottleneck.

Coloured glass decanters serve as striking accents when placed where natural light can pass through them, such as on a dining room sideboard, open bar cart, or deep window sill. Grouping decanters of varying heights and jewel tones creates a visually compelling focal point.

Hand wash antique decanters gently using warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals. To prevent water spots inside the narrow neck, allow them to air dry completely inverted on a specialised decanter drying stand.
