Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vargueno, or bargueno, is a form of portable desk and writing cabinet originating in Spain during the Renaissance period. It consists of a chest with a fall-front lid concealing small drawers, traditionally resting on a wooden trestle stand or chest of drawers.

Seventeenth-century varguenos were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as walnut or pine, often complemented by intricate hand-forged wrought iron lockplates, latches, handles, and decorative mounts.

Authentic pieces display hand-forged ironwork with visible oxidisation and hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery. The stand frequently features arcaded balusters or turned uprights secured by iron stretcher supports.

A vargueno functions as a focal architectural statement piece in an entryway, library, or living area. Combining its dark timber and structured metalwork with contemporary neutral walls creates an impactful textural contrast.

Keep the piece in a stable environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement. Clean the timber with a soft dry cloth, apply bees wax sparingly, and avoid chemical polishes on hand-forged ironwork.
