Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George I walnut bureau is an English writing cabinet originating from the period between 1714 and 1727. It features a sloping fall-front flap that opens to reveal an fitted interior of small drawers and pigeonholes, positioned above a chest of long drawers.

These pieces were typically constructed with a oak carcass veneered in figurate walnut, often enhanced with herringbone or feather-banded borders. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, brass drop handles, and solid bracket feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, natural wood shrinkage around drawer linings, period-appropriate brass hardware, and original lock mechanisms. The presence of crossbanding, feather banding, and sectioned walnut veneers on the fall-front also indicates period craftsmanship.

A Georgian bureau can serve as a functional workstation in a home office or a focal piece in a living area. Pair it with modern lighting, neutral wall finishes, and minimalist accessories to balance its warm timber tones and classical proportions.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice a year to preserve the timber finish. Keep the bureau away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent veneer lifting and timber shrinkage.
