This lovely Jacobean-style crewel embroidery has two fantastical birds - one appears to be a crane embroidered in four shades of pink or rose and white, and the other of unknown type, but typical of Jacobean designs. They are perched on a gorgeous, elaborately designed and coloured tree of life with beautiful, multi-coloured stems and flowers.
This wonderful panel is likely from the early 20th century, or it may be older.
It is stitched on silk and retains borders that can be used to mount or frame the tapestry, as you desire.
The entire piece is in very good condition, with colours that have faded but that are still impressive. There are no tears to the fabric, but it is nearly 100 years old; the photos show the age and condition.
Dimensions are, with borders, 63.5 cm tall and 62 wide.
Without borders (after mounting), 59.5 cm tall and 60 cm wide.
