Sandbanks Antiques has dated this Chinese Aubergine Glazed Ewer to the 19th Century.
The vessel is elegantly formed with a fluted/lobed body and a refined spout, a style historically inspired by Near Eastern metalwork.
The base features an impressed four-character seal mark reading: (Qiánlóng Nián Zhì), which translates to "Made in the Qianlong Period" (1736-1795). While the mark refers to the height of Qing Dynasty ceramic production, this piece is likely an exceptional example from the late 19th Century, expertly made in the revered Imperial style.
A striking object for display, it is perfect for collectors of monochromatic Qing Dynasty-style porcelain.
Period: Late Qing Dynasty (c. 1890s), bearing an apocryphal Qianlong mark.
