Founders Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The top carries matching inlay and a walnut-moulded edge, while the whole stands on a plinth base with a small turned knob in matching timber.

The piece exemplifies the craftsmanship of the 1880s–1890s, when light native timbers and precise linear ornament replaced the exuberance of earlier Victorian design. Its warm tone and subtle contrast of materials give it a distinctive presence, ideal beside a bed, sofa or reading chair.

Presented in very good antique condition with a rich, gently aged surface and minor wear consistent with age and use. An old split to the top has been solidly repaired and remains visible, but the surface is smooth and stable. Structurally solid, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1890.
