Fine German 18th C. Flintlock Holster Pistol By Hofmann, C.1750. With An Ornately Carved Walnut Stock & Brass Lockplate.

Fine long-barrelled German flintlock holster pistol by Hofmann, circa 1740–1760. 13'' barrel engraved at the breech with rococo scrollwork and small inlaid gilt escutcheon. Brass lockplate signed Hofmann, good crisp action. Ornately carved walnut full stock with relief shell and foliate decoration to the tang and lock panels, fitted with steel mounts including spurred trigger guard, ramrod pipes and domed butt cap. Attractive age patina throughout.
A very good example of mid-18th century Suhl or Nuremberg workmanship by a member of the Hofmann gunmaking family.

Condition. Condition excellent in keeping with age and usage, please examin the photographs.

An elegant and well-preserved German officer’s holster pistol from the mid-18th century, showing the refined Suhl/Nuremberg style typical of the Hofmann family of gunsmiths. The pistol retains a crisp lock action and unto...uched patina, with finely carved walnut stock and quality steel furniture. A genuine and well-balanced piece for the collector of early European flintlocks, seldom encountered signed examples survive in such honest condition.
