Royal Worcester Pair of Figures “Fisherman and Fisherwoman”, James Hadley, 1892–1893

Description

A fine, large Royal Worcester pair modelled by James Hadley in the blush ivory style. The fisherman and fisherwoman stand on rockwork bases with baskets; soft flesh tones and restrained gilding. Rare large size: approx. 45.5 cm and 44 cm in height.

Factory marks: printed crowned roundel “Royal Worcester England”; registration Rd No 67080 (design registered 1887); impressed/incised “Hadley” signatures; Worcester dot-device dating reads 1892 on one figure and 1893 on the companion.

James Hadley (1837–1903) served as Worcester’s leading designer from the 1860s to 1895, responsible for the factory’s principal figure series and for the development of the blush ivory palette.

Collecting note: matched pairs of this scale, fully signed and cleanly dated within the early 1890s, are scarce and command strong collector interest.

Fisherman: height 45.5 cm; width 20 cm; depth 19 cm; weight 2118 g

Fisherwoman: height 44 cm; width 18.2 cm; depth 18 cm; weight 2022 g

Condition:

Excellent antique condition with minimal, near-invisible gilding wear on high points; no chips, cracks or restorations observed.
