Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain, originating from the Arita region in Japan, is characterised by underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red enamel and gilt accents. During the Meiji period (18681912), production expanded for international export, featuring intricate floral panels, foliage, and geometric patterns.

Imari ware is crafted from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to produce a hard porcelain body. The decoration requires a two-stage firing process: first firing the cobalt blue underglaze, followed by applying iron-red enamels and gold leaf highlights before a second, lower-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces feature hand-painted decoration, subtle surface irregularities, and precise gilding wear consistent with age. Look for traditional palette combinations of cobalt blue, brick red, and gold, alongside characteristic foot-rim wear and occasional kiln spur marks.

An Imari bowl serves as a focal centrepiece when positioned on a minimalist sideboard, coffee table, or console table. Its palette complements both dark timber finishes and contemporary neutral schemes, introducing pattern and colour contrast.

Clean via gentle hand-washing using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges that could damage overglaze enamels and gilding. Avoid dishwashers or microwaves, and handle with clean hands to prevent oil transfer.
