This unusual and beautiful large cupboard, likely from the Netherlands and made in the 17th or early 18th century, was used to cure meat, which is evidenced by the internal pegs and the large open space that was used to hang cuts of pork, beef, bore, or other game while they cured.
It has a beautiful carefully maintained patina from centuries of use.
There are lovely, raised panels both to the doors and the base, and also on the drawers, lending an overall fine architectural appearance, and a heavy moulded cornice to the top.
Two large shelves have been inserted to convert the larder into a housekeeper’s cupboard to store dishes, glass, plates, or whatever you wish. There are a brass pull knob and a brass escutcheon on the doors, probably of later date.
There are two original drawers with brass knobs that are also likely of a later date. The drawers are a bit wobbly when pulled out, but this could be easily remedied.
It is in very good antique condition.
