Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in 18th-century Britain, George II furniture is characteristically robust and ornate, drawing heavy influence from Palladian architecture, Rococo flourishes, and classical motifs such as Greek key borders, acanthus leaves, and cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet.

Frames were typically carved from softwoods such as pine or lime, coated with gesso, and finished using water gilding with gold leaf. Table tops were frequently executed in imported variegated marbles, such as green marble, to withstand heavy decorative use.

Look for signs of hand-carved construction beneath the gesso layer, subtle craquelure or age-related wear in the gilding, natural oxidisation on exposed underside timber, and heavy, hand-cut marble slabs with historic wear.

A carved giltwood centre table functions as a dramatic focal anchor in an entrance hall or foyer. Modern designers often pair these classical pieces with contemporary artwork, minimalist ceramics, or neutral backdrops to balance the detailed gilding.

Clean marble tops using a soft cloth dampened with pH-neutral water, avoiding acidic solutions that etch natural stone. Giltwood surfaces should only be gently dusted with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or damp cloths which damage gesso and gold leaf.
